The Next Big Thing in Elder Home Care Services

The Next Big Thing in Elder Home Care Services

Advances in technology have made it easier than ever to age comfortably, thanks in part to innovative elder home care services like Telecare, which offer benefits like promoting greater independence, dignity, and safety.

Imagine worrying less about a loved one remembering an essential part of their care plan or if a loved one is doing well, even if no one is physically present with them. Telecare provides an added layer of peace of mind and much more.

What are Elder Home Care Services?

Elder home care services include personal care, companionship, family support, and light housekeeping provided by a non-family member that comes to the home, typically from an agency.

The objective is to allow seniors to remain in their homes longer and safer while ensuring their needs are met. With advances in technology, lifestyle medicine, and digital therapeutics, these services have expanded to include Telecare.

What Is Telecare?

Telecare is a plan for health and well-being enabled by technology that supports an aging senior or physically less able person and allows them to live in their own home with safety, dignity, and independence.

It’s a way to recognize their desire to remain independent while establishing periodic check-ins while still allowing them to plan long term and keep their autonomy. They can still work, enjoy hobbies, and participate in the neighborhoods and communities they love while still visiting family and friends regularly.

With Telecare, loved ones enjoy more freedom from worry, too — especially the peace of mind that comes with knowing their relative’s safety is supported and that they can check in on them any time throughout the day. This reassurance can lessen the anxiety that comes with being unable to always be with an aging loved one.

Telecare also lessens the burden for home and health care agencies as well as senior living communities, allowing them an additional layer to support seniors and promote wellness and independence. That’s why more health care providers are adopting Telecare as a central hub of their wellness services.

Telecare had been growing in popularity even before the COVID-19 pandemic making it safer to provide medical care remotely, but the health crisis did help normalize Telecare even more. A Digital Consumer Trends survey conducted in May 2020 found that 14% of people had more remote encounters, whether it be phone or video, appointments with health practitioners.

Seniors, loved ones, physicians, and health care agencies in rural areas have also appreciated this new approach to elder home care services because it expands seniors’ access to care.

According to Larissa Morgan, writing for The Regulatory Review, “over 60% of health care institutions in rural areas now use telehealth technology to deliver medical services to patients in remote locations.” She added, “telehealth expansion might be one step closer to ending the rural health care gap.”

How To Find The Telecare Service That Fits Your Needs

‘Help! I’ve fallen, and I can’t get up!’ You may remember this line from an old commercial, but Telecare is far more than just fall detection. Good Telecare services should cover all aspects of health and wellness, including medication reminders, exercise routines, and engagement to reduce isolation and loneliness.

Routinify is an innovative service that goes beyond telemedicine management and remote monitoring using cutting-edge software called WellAssist.

WellAssist monitors the health, safety, and wellbeing of Aging Adults and helps to establish and maintain Habits for Aging Well™.

Data is collected from wearables, medical devices, and in-home sensors and is combined with voice and touch input from the Aging Adult to monitor vitals, activity, and wellbeing throughout the day.

WellAssist Routines assist with managing sleep, nutrition, medications, monitoring vitals, activity levels, social and mental engagement, coordinating visitors, and TeleVisit and TeleMedicine appointments. Data can be shared with a physician and routines updated based on their directives.

The critical thing about Telecare is that it offers people more choices and more independence. Telecare is easy to set up and enjoy; that’s why Routinify hosts live demonstrations and Q and A sessions three times a week.
